DECEMBER


        We saw a number of polar bears on this trip. This one was on a large ice floe, and we watched it for quite a while as it wandered around peering over the edges of the floe. Finally it dove in and swam off to check out a floating oil barrel. No lunch here!

CROSSING THE CASCADES - EAST TO WEST  After photographing the Palouse and the Scablands, Rick and I headed west to cross the Cascades heading for the west coast.  On the way we passed through apple country. Even with one's eyes closed, there was no doubt it was apple season. We passed through small towns with shipping warehouses. The smell in the air was totally apple scent! I suppose one might get tired of it after awhile, it was so heavy in the air. But, passing through, it was Delicious, or maybe Honey Crisp :-)) Apple orchards Pick up boxes or bags of apples, and leave your money in the drop box! You may, or may not, have figured out that for a brief moment, December was November. And if you are really a dedicated blog follower, you may, or may not, notice both November and December are posted.  Most of you will never notice. For the rest of us, that is our little secret. UP IN THE AIR AND RACHEL MADDOW

      What ? This is a Greenland/ Arctic calendar blog. What does either of the above have to do with that ? Those of you who know me may have heard my take on Rachel Maddow. If you want the facts ma’am, and only the facts, don’t listen to Rachel. She’s a story teller, and will start in left field and hit all the bases before reaching home. (I happen to like her stories, if not the interminable commercials.) Those of you who know me are also aware that my stories often have that same issue - but no commercials. This is one such blog post! A calendar has to have a “Theme”. The images all have to work together as a group, and even if I occasionally sneak in an outlier, Rick is there to keep me on message.
